In der Region hat sich ein deutschlandweit führendes, innovationsstarkes Cluster für medizinische Biotechnologie aus Pharma- und Diagnostik-Unternehmen, kleinen und mittleren Biotech-Unternehmen sowie Forschungs- und Hochschuleinrichtungenetabliert. Thematische Schwerpunkte sind die personalisierte Medizin und die Krebsforschung.
