The region Schwarzwald-Baar-Heuberg is characterized by a high industry density clearly exceeding the federal state’s average as well as by medium-sized businesses dominating the industry structure. The region has been chosen as business location by several companies which have already been awarded for winning prizes in world-wide renowned competitions.
The Schwarzwald-Baar-Heuberg region covers an area of 2,529 square kilometres with around 481,000 inhabitants. The region consists of the local districts of Rottweil, Tuttlingen and the Schwarzwald-Baar district. Compared to Baden-Wuerttemberg as a whole, region's economy presents a markedly stronger production sector. The economic-industrial history stretches back to the first part of the 19th century, when the region experienced substantial structural changes. As a consequence, the already existing cluster structures had been further consolidated, e. g. in the sector of medical technology. This development has lead to an increase of the number of strategic management organisations within the cluster structures through different initiatives.
